END OF 2000-01 SEASON

In an exciting finish to the season Fulford beat rivals Bootham A to win the Faber Shield Billiards title. Needing to win 6-1 Fulford started well with Richard Stroughair (undefeated all season) beating Colin Robinson by some 98 points. Further wins came from Alan Reed, Wayne Pulleston and Colin Neal. It was Brian Bickerstaffe who won the decisive point, beating Barry Rankin, before Roger Gibson completed a memorable whitewash by defeating Pete Mills. The aggregate point gave Fulford a 7-0 victory and enabled them to win the league title by three points. It was a good season for Fulford at Billiards and, with Richard Stroughair winning the Hylton-Foster individual title and Wayne Pulleston winning the player of the season award, they hold all the Billiards titles.

Richard Stroughair with his two individual trophies won in 2000-01 The Faber Shield won by Fulford

Heworth A took the Carlsberg-Tetley Snooker League by some 7 points from Bootham A with Neil Wood undefeated in the league all season. Bootham B comfortably took the John Smiths B Team Cup by 8 points from Heworth B. In another close finish Bootham took the Slater Cup C Team League by one point from Fulford. Indeed had the pairing of Brian Smith and Dave Scott won a black ball game for Fulford in their final game against Acomb they would have won that match and taken the title, finishing level with Bootham on points but having won one more game.

In the individual competitions Neil Wood won the Scruton Cup for the third season running beating Stephen Burdett 3-0. Wood also won the Turnbull-Mazda pairs with Clive Whyte defeating Richard Harris and Marcus O'Boyle of Acomb in the final. Richard Stroughair defeated Whyte in the Les Hawkins Memorial Snooker Final and took the Hylton-Foster Billiards title with wins over John Darley, Pete Mills, Ian Gillies and Don Pringle before beating Trevor Ventress in the final. Brian Birch of Heworth beat B.Henry (Acomb) to win the Hunters Over 50's title and Neil Wood and Ken Taylor (Bootham) made the highest breaks at Snooker and Billiards, respectively.

Bootham took the C Team Knockout Cup and, during a remarkable presentation night, Heworth A won the Kutters and Shannon Team Cup defeating Acomb A. The surprise of the night was Mick Frampton's victory over Neil Wood which ended Wood's unbeaten run for the season in his final game.
